About me
January 13, 2008
Hey ya’ll, my name is Sofonyas Neguse and I’m 21. I was born and raised in Ethiopia and moved to Canada three years ago when my parents came for a visit and decided to stay. When I first moved here I didn’t knew anybody so I spent most of my time sitting in front of a computer. This habit grew in me now I can’t go for a day with out spending sometime on the computer. It’s not a bad habit so I’m not complaining.
Right now am doing a business major and a minor in economics. Though I’m majoring in business, there is something about information technology that interest me to the point that makes me want to change my major but I guess its too late for that.
I have a desktop computer at home and I don’t remember the last time it was off. I visit facebook as if it was my home page and I also have a MySpace account but I hardly ever use it. I’m not a music junky but downloading music and movies are also something I tend to do on a daily base using a bit torrent client named Shareaza . This application also allows me to download other stuff from web blogs.
Prior to taking this course, I thought I knew lots about computers, but now this course made me realize otherwise, so there goes my confidence. Thanks a lot Dave.
About Me

About Me
Good Morning all, my name is Tony Elliott and I’m a 3rd year Business student. I’m a little bit older than the rest of the class, 38 to be exact. I’m married and have a beautiful daughter who is 22 months old (Hannah) and my wife (Michelle) and I are expecting another addition to our family within the next couple of months, due date is March 11. I’m striving on completing my Business degree, minoring in IT and hope to attend convocation in May 2009.
I am originally from Newfoundland and moved to PEI in the summer of 2000 and currently reside in Stratford. I have been transformed into a golf junkie however last summer I was only able to golf 4.5 rounds of golf, quite a difference from the 80-100 I normally golf and with another child coming soon I suspect my golfing days will be quite limited for the next couple of years until I can get them involved. I do spend a lot of time on the computer but for personal interest and doing research. I do subscribe to Facebook but use it very infrequently. I currently use MP3 rocket to download my music. I have no experience with RSS but I am looking forward to using this because I am always using Yahoo to catch up on the latest in Technology (especially electronics) and world news. This is going to be a very interesting course and looking forward to our class time together so can learn things from each other.
About Tasia :)
January 12, 2008
Heya Everyone!! My name is Tasia Bulger (think a “T” in front of the continent Asia) and I resided 20 minutes outside of Charlottetown in Hartsville. I am currently attending my fourth year of Business Administration at UPEI hoping to complete my BBA next spring. The fifth year will allow me to complete my Co-operative Education requirements, and I intend to finish my final work-term in Fall, 2008. I have been working as a Financial Service Representative at Metro Credit Union for about 2 years now, through Co-op work terms during the summer months and part-time during the academic year. I hope to continue a career in the financial service industry or investment banking.
My interests outside of university include mainly art and music. I enjoy an extensive variety of music, but my current favorites are: Joanna Newsom, Blonde Redhead, Tegan & Sara, Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent, Dead Can Dance, Four Tet, Ocean Colour Scene, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire and the Strokes. As much free time as possible (which never amounts to more than 2 hours a week, unfortunately) is allocated to painting in watercolors and/or acrylics, and pencil drawing. I am currently taking art lessons from Henry Purdy, who is so talented and remarkably hilarious!
My behemoth beast of a laptop, which I have dubbed “the big white shark” (a tribute to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) travels everywhere with me, mainly because I have so much music on it which I add to daily. Email, Facebook, and music blogs (such as I Guess I’m Floating , My Old Kentucky Blog, Silly Pipe Dreams and GorillavsBear ) frequent my web pages and after recently discovering how to use RSS on Monday, my surfing is becoming increasingly facilitated. Thanks Dave!
My expectations for this course are to obtain potentially valuable information regarding applications which can hopefully be put to use in the near future (ie RSS). Personally, I would like to learn more about getting music online, but I am also open to other learning opportunities.
I’ll see everyone in class on Monday, or completely tanked at Fishbones tomorrow night, haha
Byes!
About Jen
January 11, 2008
Hey, my name is Jennifer Campbell, but almost everyone calls me Jen (with one n definitely not two). I’ve lived in Charlottetown my whole life, all 20 years, it will be 21 in March. I graduated from Colonel Gray High School and decided to give UPEI a try. I enrolled in sciences first year, and came to the conclusion that it wasn’t for me, so I switched into business and haven’t looked back since. I am currently in my 3rd year in the business program and I am also involved in the co-op program in which I hope to gain experience with HR, PR or marketing.
My typical day is usually filled with the sick amount of schoolwork we have this year, working at DVA, volunteering at the QEH or procrastinating (which I am exceptional at).
When it comes to technology, I am not the greatest, by any means. I know your basic knowledge that I learned from IT and MIS courses at UPEI. I’m a hug fan of Google, I know how to work My Space, Facebook and those type programs but I have no interest in using them, there is something about people knowing everything about you, which creeps me out. I enrolled in this course as an elective but I am looking forward to learning all the different types of technology that we plan on learning in this course.
About ME! - David McKenna
January 10, 2008
Hey everyone,
I’ll start by talking about my background a little bit. My dad is an RCMP officer and so over my life I have moved to many different places throughout Atlantic Canada. I’ve lived in Nain, Goosebay, and Labrador City in Labrador, as well as Marystown, Bay D’Espoir, Clarenville and Whitebourne in Newfoundland. I have lived in Charlottetown for the last six years, which is mainly because my family and I love it here so much.
I absolutely love business, and have really enjoyed this year, which is my third at UPEI. I plan on getting my BBA with a strengthening in accounting and a minor in Business Information Technology. I am also in the COOP program and will be attending my first work term this upcoming May.
I’m involved in many extra curricular activities both at UPEI and outside in the community. The one I am most involved with at the moment is the UPEI Business Society, which has an office on the third floor of Kelley where I pretty much live and breathe.
So thats pretty much my life story, now for my computer background. I know how to program with Java, Visual Basic, HTML, CSS, and Javascript, all due to taking courses at UPEI. I am currently learning how to us PHP, MySQL, and Apache in my IT306 course. This being said, I know computer basics, but I don’t feel I know very much. I want to learn useful tools that people everywhere are using like RRS Readers and del.icio.us.
I have my own laptop, as well as a Sandisk MP3 player, and I download music constantly. I’ve never downloaded a movie before, mainly because I have never tried and don’t know where to download it. I use limewire for my music, but I have no idea if movies can be downloaded with it. Considering how many of you have downloaded movies, hopefully I can catch up and learn how to do this.
I decided to take a Business IT minor so I could learn all of these things, but I feel my minor has so far let me down. I’m excited for this course because I think I may learn what I’ve been looking for here. Not only am I excited to learn from all of the blogs, but I’ve enjoyed reading your comments that have already been posted. and I think we can learn as much from each other as from what we read online.
Sorry for having such a long post and for telling you my life story, but at the moment I’m putting off studying for finance.
See you all in class,
Dave

Imran Khan
January 9, 2008
Hello everyone. As the title suggests, my name is Imran Khan. I am a 4th year student at Upei completing my last semester. I am from Pakistan and came to Canada (UPEI) about 4 years ago as a freshman starting with 0 credits to obtain a BBA degree. I also would have a minor in Information Technology assuming all goes well in this course since it is the last course requirement I have to obtain the minor. I use the net basically to check my mail. I have MSN but I never chat on it. Used to chat a lot but not interested in it any more. I have facebook, signed up for it 3 months ago, but hardly use it. I use my laptop for writing reports, surfing the web, watching movies, and listening to music. I tried google reader after our first class and signed up for CNN just to test out the reader and get familiar with it. Before I had no clue about RSS even though I saw the icon in my browser many times, now I understand it more. hopefully in a few weeks I would have a better grasp of this technology that had evaded my eyes uptil now. There is so much new things out there (technological wise), such as small web applications or stand alone applications which I have never even known. Hopefully with this course I would be able to test some of them out.

Hey everyone

Hey everyone,My name is Mitchell Watts. I live in Hartsville PEI. I am in 4th year Business, and minoring in Economics. I am in the Co-op program at UPEI, and hoping that this will help me decide in a future career path. I am hoping to work in an area of investing, or banking. I try to keep current on news from investing web sites, as investing is one of my interests. I really enjoy watching hockey, and football on tv. I regularly check nhl.com to keep up to date on current hockey news, and tsx.ca to keep up to date on investing news. My favorite hockey team is the Montreal Canadiens. I cheered for them since I was in elementary school when Patrick Roy was goalie. Some of my hobbies are pond hockey, golf, and listening to a wide variety of music.I have been a volunteer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital since the Summer of grade eight. I have enjoyed my time there a lot, and have learnt quite a bit from volunteering. I have volunteered in the Giftshop and Royal Pantry.I feel that I am pretty knowledgeable about current technology, but I realize that I only know a fraction of what is out there. I am looking forward to learning much as possible from this course. It seems really interesting so far .
Jerry’s Hello
January 8, 2008
Hey everyone,My name is Jeremiah Blaquière, from Fredericton PEI. I’m a 3rd year business student at UPEI. I was going to aim toward getting an accounting certificate, however after the first class I found out that I could get a minor in Business Information Systems…….. I currently work for the Canadian Forces as a Maritime Surface Officer, and spend my summers on the West coast doing the Navy thing.I like to think of myself as pretty knowledgeable with regards to technology, however I know that what I know is only the tip of the iceberg. I enjoy TV shows (on my notebook), movies (also on my notebook), as well as news (notebook again), music (extensive library on iTunes), and sports. I think I’m going to like this course, and can’t wait to take part in in-class discussions.Ciao
Hi im Dave
January 8, 2008
Hi Everyone,My name is Dave Canvin. I am from Charlottetown, P.E.I. and am currently finishing up my last semester of my BBA here at UPEI. In the future I hope to attend law school or perhaps take my masters in business. My hobbies include sports (especially golf and basketball), and messing around with computers and technology. I confess that I am a Facebook addict, and I rely heavily on the computer for emailing, listening to music, and watching movies and stuff like that. I am taking this course because technology has always fascinated me, and I like to see how it will be implemented in business further in the future.I started using Google Reader yesterday and I must admit it is a pretty impressive way to view content on the Internet. I presently have it set up with feeds from my favorite sports teams: the Montreal Canadiens, New England Patriots, and the Pheonix Suns, and also CISHoops.ca, a Canadian basketball blog I visit. It is a pretty neat way to keep up to date with current events and I look forward to using it more this semester.
